Katelyn & Josh / Rock Meadow / Massachusetts Engagement Session

Creative-Engagement-Portraits-in-Boston (17)

Rock Meadow is a beautiful field in Belmont, Massachusetts where people go to cross-country ski and let their dogs run around in wide-open space. Since we had seen the number of skiers there before, we hoped and expected the snowy trails to be fairly packed and easily-walkable. Not so much. These two amazing people trekked all the way down from New Hampshire for their engagement session with us, about a week after one of our many big East Coast snowstorms. Naturally, the extra foot of snowfall completely dumped on our expectations of the terrain, but Katelyn and Josh were absolutely amazing. Despite the path constantly collapsing with every other step, they took the collapsing snow-path with good humor, and we had so much fun just hanging out with the two of them telling jokes and you know, taking some pictures. As wedding photographers, we’ve learned that we can’t always control what is happening in a particular scene – what we can control is how we frame and capture the moment as an image. For that reason, we’ve been known to get into some interesting positions and angles for composition. One major benefit of the deep, deep snow is that wherever we feel like getting low, well, we can easily make a nice, comfy seat in the middle of nowhere. After so many stormy weekends, the clear, blue skies and bright sun against the beautiful snow made for an amazing setting. We marched through the deep snow in the field and eventually made our way into the woods where the winter trees framed the two of them perfectly. We started the session in the late afternoon, so by about halfway, we already had a great sunset giving us a gorgeous backdrop. Despite the tricky landscape, thanks to the awesome couple and great weather, we created some of our favorite images, and while we squished back to the car with a couple inches of melted snow in our shoes, we were already looking forward to showing these off.
