Holly & Robb / SF Crissy Field Engagement Session

Destination Engagement Portraits in San Francisco (19)

These two met over here in New England, but moved over the sunny California together. Given that our correspondence had all been long distance over the phone or via email, scheduling the session was a little tricky. Since they will be getting married back in town, we had originally planned to do a chilly winter engagement session right in downtown Boston, but when we made plans to head back west to visit our own families, we all decided that it would be awesome to get their engagement photos by the SF Bay, where it would presumably be nice and warm.

On the day of, we watched the fog creep in as we crossed the Bay Bridge. The weather forecast said that the drizzle would stop right around the time our session was supposed to start. What fantastic luck! We arrived at Crissy Field a little early, but as the Golden Gate Bridge progressively faded more and more into the dense mist, hope for a sunny day was pretty much gone. To add to the irony, at the same time, Boston was reading 20 degrees warmer than San Francisco. Thanks El nińo!

Instead of a little fog and mild drizzling, we were treated to high winds and heavy showers. Armed with two umbrellas, two cameras, and a two awesome people, we decided to go for it. Best decision ever. Despite getting drenched and frozen, we had so much fun walking down the empty beach and playing with the epic San Francisco fog.

We can’t get perfect weather every session, and we definitely can’t pick and choose the weather on a wedding day. It ultimately doesn’t matter, though, because our job is and always will be to capture our couples’ amazing stories through unique images. Each and every time. And sometimes, that unfavorable weather just means we might get some kickass images that we would have never gotten otherwise.
