This image of Tristan trying to brush Bowser the giant nine-month-old Newfoundland puppy perfectly sums up how absolutely incredible this family is. Raising a family can be such a big, hairy endeavor, but the end result is so amazingly rewarding.
We first met this family about a year ago, and when Shelly reached out telling us that she was expecting, we were stoked that they wanted us there to capture the family with the new baby and share their happiness. Anyone browsing our site has probably figured out that we are mainly wedding photographers (along with associated engagement sessions, of course), but we also really enjoy photographing families and events. Someone looking at our work can also see our love for moments that happen in real life – obviously we love epic, awesome creative portraiture, but we take a very relaxed, laid-back approach for even those. It’s the raw in-between interactions that really make us excited about what we do.
This documentary-style family session took everything we love in our photography – capturing emotions and candid, unplanned moments between people – and crammed it all into an incredible two hours. Between being greeted at the door by a giant black ball of fur, to the quiet moments with baby Levi and Mom and Dad, to the time spent being silly with Cody skillfully leaping across mattresses, we were just amazed by this family. Even Shelly’s brother made it from out of town along with four-month-old Claude the French bulldog, all to participate in the love and joy.
Some of our favorite shoots – any shoots from weddings to portrait sessions – all share a few pretty specific signs: our muscles are stiff from moving around, and our faces hurt from laughing (or our eyes are puffy from tearing up, pretty typical at weddings!). After saying our good byes with the awesome family, we were just as sore as after any wedding day, and our cheeks definitely ached. Plus, how could a shoot with three babies under a year old not be awesome?
