We’ve been following Sam Hurd for his amazing compositions and colors since we started out, so when we found out Sam was having a workshop in Monterrey, Mexico, we really could not pass up the opportunity. The awesome Fer Juaristi hosting the whole thing just made everything more exciting. Sam’s first day sold out within minutes of his posting, and we just barely missed the second day too. We had pretty much given up when Sam emailed that two spots had opened up. Done.
We stepped off the plane to find ourselves in balmy Mexico. After some crazy delays and a missed connection, seeing the sun again for the first time in months was already well worth the trip! We were really glad to spend the first afternoon exploring the beautiful city, and enjoying some delicious cabrito (roasted goat kid) at the famous Restaurant San Carlos.
Workshop day was nothing short of epic. First things first, Fer Juaristi’s house is just amazing – custom designed and built with steel, concrete, and brick. It’s hard to describe an experience in words, so we’ll let the photos do most of the talking. Getting a firsthand feel for how Sam sees the world, though, was exactly the type of inspiration we were looking for. Lola and Jesus were just the best models, too!
Of course, no trip to Mexico is complete without tacos, so that late evening run to a nearby taco stand led by none other than Sam Hurd perfectly summed up the trip. Thanks so much for an awesome workshop, Sam, and thank you Fer for hosting at your beautiful home.
It’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to stay longer in Monterrey, but we’re seriously itching to go back and explore those crazy mountains. Anyone want to get married in Monterrey?
